But this isn’t an article about a winch…as much as it may have seemed like it thus far. Let’s skip over to the other side of the lift and take a look at what the winch cables are attaching to.

The cables pass through some openings in the housing, and then connect to some fastener anchors, much like what I did on the ends of the pulleys.

Other than the cable attachment points and the arm interfaces, there isn’t really much going on with this assembly. So guess that makes this one as good a ‘Rigid Link’ as any to take a look at how the arms are held in place (’Rigid Link’ is how I’ll generally refer to the four ‘corners’ that the arms connect to).

If you’ve seen my Heat Setter arm design, these bearings are going to look very familiar.

Slicing through one set of pivots shows the stack up of balls and cones that make up the bearings. The orange bits on the outside preload these ball stacks, and define the locations for the outer balls.
